Day 43: Psalm 33:6

Devotional

READ PSALM 33:6

Do you have people or circumstances in your life that sometimes feel bigger than God? When we start to feel overwhelmed by all that this world throws at us, we need to immerse ourselves in the truth of who God is to keep a right perspective on things.

Words like omnipotent and omniscient can sound intimidating and overly academic, and we can tend to pass quickly over them and miss the awe and wonder that they should stir in us. God is powerful enough to work in ALL SITUATIONS. Yes, even those that you are convinced are impossible. That “lost cause” is not hopeless to the God that literally spoke the heavens into existence. He sees all things, from eternity past to eternity future. And He is actively working all things together for our good and His glory.

In our text today, King David is recording reasons to praise the Lord. These reasons include praise for God’s Word, His creative power, His sovereignty (or omnipotence) over all the nations, His all-seeing vision (or omniscience), His faithful works, and His deliverance of His people. David is calling Israel to not only praise God, but to do it with joyful celebration. Where earthly strength will fail them, God’s power never will. David is reminding them of the unchanging attributes of God.

The reality that the Creator of the universe placed every star in the sky with just a breath is awe-inspiring. It brings comfort to our hearts and minds. When our lives feel overwhelmed by all the things we are trying to juggle, we are reminded that the God who spoke everything into existence, is with us. God is greater than anything or anyone that may be consuming our mind or capturing our attention. Refuse to become overwhelmed by the greatness of your circumstances. Instead, let your heart be overwhelmed by the greatness of your God.

Personal Reflection

  • Spend some time naming the things that are most overwhelming to you right now, and then lay them at the feet of Jesus. Confess any area you are struggling to trust Him with. Acknowledge that God is all-powerful and is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above anything we could ever ask or imagine (Eph 3:20).
  • Now spend some time praising God for who He is. Celebrate Him through words and worship. Allow the truth of His power and goodness to permeate your thoughts and fill your heart with joyful praise.
