Day 35: Hebrews 11:3
Devotional
READ HEBREWS 11:3
Have you ever felt stuck? Or unsure of the right answer? Or what about when the answer doesn’t make sense, feels too difficult, or isn’t what you wanted? I often find myself in this space. The space where I can intentionally choose faith or continue to be stuck. This is a deeply personal struggle. It is one of those internal things that people can’t see. But what is personal to me is quite universal.
Hebrews 11:3 reminds us that we can see God’s creation everywhere, but it came from something we cannot see. We acknowledge His presence (what is unseen) by what we do see (His creation). By faith. This chapter reads like an evidence log of bold faith. And it’s interesting that the beginning of this account starts with God and creation. It sets the precedence that we accept things through faith. But what about that sanctifying type of faith that requires action? Verse 3 feels like an easier, passive version of faith. Reading on, we see faith through action. Faith that sanctifies and makes us more like Jesus. The kind that doesn’t always make sense. The kind that has you moving forward despite fear.
So, what happens when it doesn’t make sense, it feels difficult, or we want a different answer? This is when the “by faith” must step in. God’s promise did not make sense to Abraham. But he moved forward in faith. Noah building an ark seems like a very difficult project. But he moved forward in faith. Moses going before Pharoah was not the answer he wanted. But he moved forward in faith. We see the RESULTS of their faith. Our life, like theirs, can become a story of things seen (results) being made from things unseen (our faith).

Personal Reflection
- What is your next “by faith” action you need to take today?
- Consider keeping your own Hebrews 11 account of your “by faith” moments. Use a notebook and record these moments. This is something you can look back on to see your growth and see God’s faithful hand in your story.

Lord, you reminded me on Sunday that each of my kids and grandkids was formed in intimacy with You. Help me move forward in faith that you are writing their stories even when they don’t yet know you and when they are running from you. Help me not become discouraged as I wait for You to draw them to You. Help me love as You love! Amen.

There have been some crazy times in my life for sure. The step forward started with time with God and calling out to Him. God was Ted me to trust him and stay connected, don’t withdraw. Great reminder to draw near to God in the crazy times.
