Meet Donna Wilson

Meet Donna Wilson

I’m Donna Wilson. I’ve been married to my husband Darin for 18 years. We have four children between the ages of 9-17 who were all born within the first eight years of our marriage. Hormones from pregnancy, along with the loss of my mother, led to a deep depression for me. Life felt as though it should be perfect. Four beautiful, healthy children, a loving husband, a beautiful home, and a wonderful church with an incredible community of friends. However, a deep sense of unworthiness gnawed at me. Fears of ruining my family and an overwhelming sense of despair nagged for years. Darin did not understand what the problem was and wondered why all we had was not enough. These years were difficult and confusing for both of us. Through God’s grace, the depression did eventually let up, although we had not learned how to face it as a couple.

After a few moves, we came to The Woodlands and found Faith Bible Church. Our first year here we only attended the service. We really enjoyed the teaching, but we were missing the close community we had at previous churches. We attended the Parenting Teens adult class (now called Parenting Students) the first Sunday morning it was offered and have enjoyed it so much we are still in the class. We also heard about re|engage marriage ministry. I wanted to go, but Darin was hesitant.  He thought our marriage was fine and that we didn’t have any problems that weren’t common to every marriage. But we ultimately decided to try it out, since our marriage had gone through some tough times.

Through the first half, Darin was skeptical and gave guarded answers both to me and the small group. But after 8 weeks, Darin felt God’s prompting to be fully honest and open. The result was growth in our marriage and a huge change in our communication. We learned how to be a safe place for one another’s feelings, fears, dreams, and hopes. After we finished the program we were asked to continue as leaders. We felt extremely inadequate at first, but as 2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “My grace is sufficient for you, my power is made perfect in weakness.”

We now have a front row seat to watch God’s power shine. We are so grateful to be a part of Faith Bible Church. The community that we have been welcomed into is beyond our expectations.
