Meet Zech Filer: God is Enough

Meet Zech Filer

My name is Zechariah Filer, and I am twenty years old.  I was originally born in New Jersey and lived there until I was six.  At that time my father was called to be a church planter.  We started churches in Utah for nine years. We served in seven other states and are currently in Arizona.

It was during our time in one of these states that God really challenged my family.  We were personally attacked by a church we were serving and stayed too long in the situation.  It became so bad that I, at fifteen years old, would fall asleep listening to my parents cry themselves to sleep in the next room.  We stayed too long and by the time we left, we were all emotionally damaged.

It was at this time that I started to be filled with rage at God.  I still believed in God, but I wanted absolutely nothing to do with God.  I just wanted to walk away from Him.  But one morning I picked up my Bible.  I wish I could tell you exactly what chapter and verse I was reading, but I cannot.  What I can tell you, is that I heard from God that morning.  I heard three simple small words, an idea in my head that I could not shake: “I am enough."

I scoffed.  “How could you be enough for my father who is drastically struggling with anxiety and depression?”

I am enough” is what I heard again.

How could you be enough for my mother and brother who are hurting so badly from serving you?” I screamed in my prayer.

I am enough.” Was God’s reply.

With tears running down my face, I built up the courage to ask one more question: “How can you be enough for me and my lack of faith?

God replied with “I am enough.

It was this time of learning that God is enough, that helped me through the darkest valley I ever walked through. On October 21, 2021, my father passed away at the age of 50.  He was my world, and I had planned my future with him being there.  But it was because of the rough situation in my past and God showing me that He is enough through that time, that I was able to rely on God. God is enough for all situations.
