Meet Giselle Ockey

Hi, my name is Giselle Ockey. For many years, my life was consumed by stress and work. I stopped going to church after a brief period in my teens, thinking that only having God in my heart was enough.
I became a single mother and focused all my energy on providing for my child and my mother, whom I asked to quit her job so she could help with babysitting. Life became a cycle of working and worrying, and while I prayed in times of need, I often doubted if anyone was truly listening.
After over 25 years of this routine, I reached a point where I wanted a change. I needed guidance about whether I should leave my job and pursue a new career path.
Not knowing how to ask God for a sign, I called my brother, who is a Christian, for advice. He encouraged me to pray specifically for a clear answer. To my surprise, I received it.
Although I was afraid to leave a stable job, I trusted in God’s direction. I cried, but I promised God that I would continue to pray daily as He had shown me His guidance.
Feeling proud of my growing faith, I called my sister to share how I was praying every day. She encouraged me to start reading the Bible daily, too.
At first, I resisted, thinking that was asking too much. But soon, I felt a pull in my heart and decided to give it a try.
My sister gifted me a New Living Translation Bible, and from that moment, I’ve been reading and discovering a deeper understanding of Christ for over a year and a half.
As I grew in my faith, I longed to find a church but didn’t know where to start. My Christian family members live outside the country, and every time I passed a church, I wondered if it was the right place for me. However, I was too afraid to walk in.
One day, while hosting an open house, I met Jacqueline and her husband Jose. They invited me to Faith Bible church, and I immediately said yes.
From the first day I attended, every word spoken and every song sung felt like it was meant for me. I have faithfully attended every Sunday since.
While reading the Bible, I came across Acts 8:35, where Philip baptized the eunuch. It was in that moment that I realized I truly believed and was never alone. All those times I prayed, Jesus was with me.
I now understand that I don’t have to be perfect—Jesus loves me as I am.
