A New Song

By Kerri McWilliams, 3rd & 4th Grade Director

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.” Psalm 40:3

Around this time last year the Lord gave me Psalm 40:3, and my daily prayer became that God would give me a new song. I was weary after a series of family moves and school changes for my daughter, but I remained hopeful that my life could still be meaningful to God’s kingdom. A couple of months into praying this, God led me out of a ministry I love and had been deeply involved in for a decade and into a position at Faith Bible Church – a position in which each week I have the privilege of leading kids to “see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.” While none of this had been on my radar, God was clearly hearing and answering my prayers.

Fast forward to now, sixteen-plus weeks into this global pandemic, and I feel the weariness setting in again. Life feels heavy today – the canceled summer plans, the uncertainty of the upcoming school year, the toddlers wearing face masks at the grocery store.

But in His persistent, overcoming grace and generosity, God led me to Psalm 40:3 again today and is teaching me that His promise of a new song continues. Because of His love and compassion, I am not consumed but able to wait and hope in Him.  Because He has shown me His faithfulness before, I am able to trust Him today.
