Pause: Luke 10:38-42
38 Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.39 She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word.40 But Martha was distracted with [a]all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.”41 But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things;42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”—Luke 10:38-42
Sometimes, life can feel like an unwieldy game of whack-a-mole. The game’s object is to whack as many moles as possible before they go back into their hole for safety. The more moles you whack, the more tickets you earn. Daily, it feels like a never-ending game of things to accomplish, errands to run, kids to shuttle, events to attend, and those don’t include what we want to do. Time constraints, pressure to do it all faster, and the growing list of things that keep popping up to take care of. Wouldn’t it be nice to press “pause?” To take a break and catch your breath? Maybe even put the paddle down and collect yourself to enjoy silence, solitude, and simplicity. Dare I say, serenity before the moles start sticking their heads up again.
