Day 48: Romans 11:36

Devotional

READ ROMANS 11:36

I am amazed by so many things in this world. One of those things is the mutualistic symbiotic relationship between humans and plants. We provide the necessary carbon dioxide for plants to thrive, and plants provide the oxygen and food humans need to live, creating a cycle essential for both species’ survival. God made the plants for us and us for the plants.

In Romans 11:36, Paul reminds us: "For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen." All things are from Him by way of creation, and they are through Him as a pathway to God. And it’s all for the purpose of being directed back to Him in worship. If all things are from Him, and through Him, then all things should be to Him and for Him. He is worthy of our praise for all things! Although God’s existence is not dependent on anything or anyone else, He made it all and it is all His. We are not meant to exist without Him.

Go back and read all of Romans 11. As the branches are sustained and thrive by the root of the tree, we are sustained and can only thrive when we are dependent on Him. He is our source of life, and our lives should point to Him and bring Him glory.
How do we do that? How can we live in a way that glorifies Him? We can care for His creation as if He created it (because He did). We can live in a way that reflects the image of God to others (because we were made in His image). We can shine the light of Jesus into the darkness of the world.

Personal Reflection

  • With the Christmas season coming up, how can you glorify God and show the love of Jesus to others?
  • What does it mean to be sustained by God? How can this help you thrive in your life?

Great reminder of the sustaining power of God though Christ. As He sustains the world, He sustains me in hard times and trials. Great reminder Kelly.
