Encouragement Power

Devotional

Read 1 Thessalonians 5:14

The instruction to encourage is not optional. We are commanded to encourage. We are told to encourage the fainthearted – those in fear and doubt who lack courage and resolution. Doubt shows up in thought patterns, telling you you can't do something. If you are unsure if you can do something, it can be terrifying to try. Fear has a loud voice. The fear of failure can prevent us from trying things. Fear tells us that God won't show up for us or that we are not worthy of His attention. These are the times that we need encouragement the most. Those who are fainthearted cannot see past their own fear and desperately need encouragement from someone else to remember what God is capable of.

This verse also tells us to help the weak – those who cannot do what they need to. When someone struggles to pray for themselves, we must step in and pray for them. When someone cannot see God's love for them or remember what God has done for them, we must remind them.

"Be patient with everyone." Encouragement is not a one-time act, but a continuous journey. When someone is trapped in fear and doubt, they may need to hear the same message of encouragement repeatedly before they can internalize it. We should not give up on someone who may not immediately accept encouragement. Instead, we need to be patient, which is a key trait of love. This patience in offering encouragement fosters empathy and understanding, making the recipient feel truly cared for.

Encouragement may not come naturally to you, but that's okay. The Holy Spirit will show you where to encourage and give you the skills to do so. The Holy Spirit, as our Comforter and Guide, will prompt us to encourage others in specific situations. Obedience to His leading is the key to effective encouragement.

Encouragement is a gift that keeps on giving. It’s like planting a seed of hope in someone's heart. When we encourage others, we're not just boosting their spirits; we're also reflecting the love and grace of God. It's a tangible way to live out our faith and build stronger relationships within our community.

Remember, encouragement isn't about fixing someone or giving unsolicited advice. It's about offering support, believing in their potential, and reminding them of God's goodness. By being patient and persistent in our encouragement, we can create a safe space for others to grow and thrive.

Personal Reflection

Think of someone you know who might be struggling with fear or doubt. How can you offer specific encouragement to them? Are there areas in your life where you've felt fainthearted? How did you overcome those feelings, and what can you learn from that experience to help others? Encouragement often starts with truly hearing someone. How can you improve your active listening skills to better understand the needs of others?

I'm gonna try to ask people from my school to come to Small Groups, and encourage them to hear the Word of God
