Meet Kate Courington
I’ve had a lot of things in my life that have scared me. When I was six, I was diagnosed with an immune deficiency. I had a lot of trouble with fear before and after I was diagnosed. I was scared of the IVs, my infusions, and all of the unknowns to the point of physically being sick. Even now, every time we go downtown I get nervous for no reason. Then, my family had some very scary issues with our neighbors.
One night, we woke up to a drunk neighbor trying to bang down our front door. And every Saturday night, they would throw big parties, making it hard to sleep. This caused me to have big issues at bedtime because I was always afraid. This was a very scary time for us all and we started to make plans to move. It was my first time moving and I had a lot of fear in that. It took a little while for our house to sell. We found a brand-new house and moved in. Nine months later our house flooded during Harvey.
In that time, I surprisingly felt a lot of peace. Throughout my life, I feel like I have learned to rely on God in every situation that I feel fear to help me feel peace.
