Meet Kitty Larkworthy

Larky and I have been married 51 years. When we moved to the Woodlands in 1976 there were 1500 people living here and our children were 2 and 4. We now have 3 adult children who are all in their 40’s. In 1976 we became very involved charter members of a denominational church. A dear friend invited me to a new Bible Study Fellowship class opening up in Conroe. After attending for over a year I realized how starved I was for learning about God’s Word and began looking for another church. Fellowship Bible church had just built its building on Shawdowbend Drive. Larky and I visited and loved the teaching. At the time there were only about 100 attendees each Sunday. We were in our early 30’s like everyone else. The church was so young that the leadership was called overseers and not elders. My parents would come to visit and always remark that there were no old people in the congregation.

Fast forward 40 years and now Larky and I are in our 70’s and we are the”old people”. We have served in many areas throughout the years including teaching Sunday school, Larky as an elder, on staff for 4 years, me on building committees, and search committees etc.  We have loved watching how God has grown our little church into a place where families and the community have been ministered to and taught the Word of God. A little over 3 years ago, I felt a strong nudge from The Lord to start a ministry to Senior adults. I saw a real need to serve the people who were either widowed or away from adult children, or who needed a place to belong as retirement became a new way of life. I met with Evelyn Tarbell, a committee was formed, and God has done the rest.

After a few name changes, we are now called Lifetimers and our mission is to serve Senior adults as well as the rest of the congregation by fellowship and serving others. The older Larky and I get the more and more we realize how important it is to stay in God’s Word and to serve others. We also realize how important it is to be in community with other believers. We can’t wait until we can all gather together again. Several of us have gotten both of our vaccine shots so hopefully it will be soon.
